My dad. Born in 1936, Started life working for de-haviland as a draughts person and then joined the RAF working in search and rescue finally ending up in the college of air warfare. after 23 years he left and worked for marconi space defence and research. He then went onto university training to become a teacher. After teaching maths in secondary schools to many students he medically retired in 1994. Not ebing able to sit still he went onto university for a second time studying law and subsequently graduated as a lawyer in 1999. At this point before ageism came into effect he was too old to work in a law practice so he went back to teaching, He always prefered to teach in schools where there were lots of challenges, again enjoying working with students from poorer backgrounds to finally get them through there maths gcse's. In october 2004 he went out on his mirror dinghy, The boat capsised. The cold water caused him to suffer a heart attack, unfortuantly the life jacket he was wearing turned him onto his front, without knowing whether he was consious or not. unconsious and floating on his front his head sank into the water. Two anglers managed to get to him and drag him to the edge of the water. Dead at the scene it took 3 paramedics 20 mins to revive him and was then air lifted to the nearest hospital. On a ventilator the most primitive part of the brain which tells the body to breath was damaged beyond 90%. 3 paramedics and the crew of the essex air ambulance gave me and my family the chance to actually see my dad. On october 29th the decision was made to turn the machine off. At 8:03pm october 29th 2004 my dad passed away. this was written by his son declan peter was my father in law sadly missed by all rip xx
